Mediation: Family Law
When a couple separate or divorce, or where they face issues over the care of their children, they need legal advice delivered with care, sensitivity and compassion.
Mary Cashin is a trained Family Lawyer Mediator by Resolution the UK Family Lawyers Association. Mary is committed to mediation, a process to help couples who have decided to separate or divorce to talk things through. As a mediator she is trained to help the couple reach agreement about how to make the best arrangements for the future in a constructive and non-confrontational way. In this capacity she acts as a neutral and impartial facilitator, uniquely informed by her extensive experience as a family lawyer and her understanding of the legal process.
How does mediation work?
As mediator Mary gives impartial guidance to help you understand what matters to you, and to make your own choices about the best way forward. She will help you both reach practical solutions which will be fair to you and your family. In the role as Family Law Mediator Mary is not a legal advisor and will not give legal advice to either of you and will usually recommend that you obtain legal advice alongside the mediation process. However, due to her experience as a Family Law Solicitor she will provide broadly based legal information to you within the mediation, if this is appropriate.
In the event of you engaging in mediation you will have a number of sessions together with the mediator (5-6 one or two hour sessions is not uncommon) to help you reach agreement. In the event that you choose mediation you can consult your own Solicitor at any time during the mediation, to take to advice on what is best for you. When you are both satisfiet with the decisions you have reached, this will then be incorporated in a Mediated Agreement which will be signed by you both. This agreement is then furnished to your Solicitor who will then complete the legal formalities.
